Leeanne was in a work meeting and missed the call from our office. “I checked my voice mail and heard the message from Sarah Zinger. I wondered whether I had messed up my last purchase or if I was a winner. There was a hint of excitement in her voice but I was still feeling unsure when I called back. Then she asked me to confirm my number. I just couldn’t believe it! I had won!”
A faithful player since the 50/50 Hospital Lottery for Guelph General Hospital began, Leeanne has a reminder set in her phone for the middle of each month to help make sure that she gets her tickets. She buys $20.00 worth each time. “I want to support the hospital. I know that the government funding doesn’t cover all the expenses and hospitals need our support. Leeanne is calling the jackpot a wedding anniversary gift. She and her husband, Martin, marked 31 years of marriage on June 2nd. To celebrate both their anniversary and the big win the couple went and bought Leeanne’s ultimate dream car, a sporty 2-seater 2008 Crossfire Coupe. This is the car she saw years ago when she was buying her “mom vehicle” and has dreamt of it ever since.
Leeanne will put the rest of her winnings in the bank while she decides what is best to do with it. Her advice to others, “If you don’t play, why not? Why wouldn’t you?”

We’re so thankful for all of you who have been playing the 50/50 Hospital Lottery. Proceeds from March’s, April’s and May’s lottery will be used towards the purchase of a new MRI scanner for Guelph General Hospital. A new MRI will improve image quality. Doctors will be able to see smaller details with greater clarity, leading to earlier and more accurate diagnosis. It will be up to 2x faster! A scan that now takes 30 minutes could be completed in 15 to 20 minutes. It will also help more patients. GGH will be able to complete more patient scans per hour of operation. And the new scanner is capable of producing images for a broader range of injuries and illnesses.
An MRI scanner will do 150,000 scans over its 10-year lifespan.
