Remembering John Wood

The Wood Family have been supporters of Guelph General Hospital for more than 30 years, almost as long as the Foundation has been in existence. In fact, their first gift in 1987 was only the seventh gift we ever received.

At the end of November, we announced that John and Barbara Wood had made an incredible $2 million gift to help fund priority equipment needs at our Hospital. In recognition of this generosity, the Hospital’s main lobby was named in their honour.

Sadly, John passed away less than a month later. We are so pleased we had the opportunity to thank John, talk about the impact of the gift, and rename the lobby in his and Barb’s honour while he was alive.

While John made his mark in business, his caring nature and love of his family and our city will be his legacy. So many local organizations have benefitted from the family’s generosity.

In media articles honouring John’s life, both his son David Wood and daughter Susan Frasson talked about their father’s belief in the importance of giving back to the community.

Remembering John, the Foundation’s CEO, Suzanne Bone notes “One of the great gifts of this work is developing long-lasting relationships with donors. It was an honour and a privilege to know John, and to see his incredible generosity and the difference it has made for patients at our Hospital.”
