Wendy Broeckel

This week’s #Monday Motivator reinforces the importance of building the right team.

Wendy Broeckel is part of the Human Resources team. She is responsible for assisting with new hire onboarding – the process of integrating a new employee into the organization and its culture, administering employee payroll and benefits, and processing job postings.

One of the first steps in providing the highest quality care and experience is hiring employees who share the same values as the Hospital.

Wendy commented, “although HR is not at the bedside providing hands on care, behind the scenes, we work to get the right person, in the right job at the right time, to provide patient centered care.”

Wendy started working at GGH in November 2005 on a 1 year contract and was hired full-time after a retirement occurred within the HR department. Wendy is grateful she was given the opportunity to stay at GGH and for the experiences she has had. “HR is never dull, it is always evolving. Trying to keep up to date with legislative changes, collective agreements, and policy updates keeps us on our toes!”

In HR, the team has an opportunity to make a good first impression with new employees, so they feel comfortable to ask questions and feel part of the culture. The goal is for employees to continue working at Guelph General and tell their friends about their great experience!

Wendy enjoys building rapport with all employees across the organization. She says, “It is amazing to see so many dedicated, long term staff!” She is an active member of the Social Committee and enjoys planning the Service Recognition Reception, held to honour employees for their continued years of exceptional service at our Hospital.

Guelph General has many staff who have been employed for more than 30 years.  It’s a testament to the strength of the Hospital team and their shared values.
