Business After 5 at Guelph General Hospital

The Foundation partners with the Guelph Chamber of Commerce for networking event

We were pleased to partner with the Guelph Chamber of Commerce for the second time to host a Business After 5 (BA5) Networking event at Guelph General Hospital.

Close to 70 Chamber members joined us at the Hospital for an evening of networking and a tour of our Hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging (DI) department.

Building connections with the local business community is an important focus for the Foundation. Annually, businesses contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars through corporate gifts, proceeds from third party events, and event sponsorships.

We are also fortunate to have some generous business partners who donate in-kind product or service that help us keep our operations and fundraising costs to a minimum. In addition, many of our dedicated volunteers come from the business community.

“Support from the local business community contributes greatly to the experience patients and their families have at Guelph General” said Rob Cameron, Senior Development Officer at The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital.

During the tour, smaller groups were formed and led through the DI department. Each participant received an up close look at the Hospital’s CT Scanner, MRI Scanner, X-Ray Units, Mammography Machine, Nuclear Medicine Imaging Unit, and one of five of the Hospital’s Ultrasound Machines. They also got to hear from and ask questions of the service’s respective technologists.

As part of the tour, it was also a privilege to give recognition to the many generous donors who helped fund these essential diagnostic tools.

Many BA5 participants were surprised to learn that patient care equipment is not funded through public tax dollars, as one in two dollars spent on hospital equipment comes from a donor. In this regard, the event was a success because it brought awareness to this critical fact and the importance of community support in patient care excellence at Guelph General Hospital.
