Over $2 Million transferred to Guelph General Hospital
Friday March 31, 2017 marked the end of the Foundation’s and the Hospital’s fiscal year.
We were overflowing with gratitude on Tuesday March 28, 2017 as we transferred donated funds totaling $1,953,282.79 to the Hospital.
This put the total funds transfer for the 2016-17 fiscal year to just over $2 million once added a $70,000 transfer that occurred earlier in the year.
These funds were used by the Hospital to purchase essential patient care equipment, a list that included well over a 100 items. Some of the larger items included the Hospital’s three new ultrasound machines, specialized surgical equipment used for joint and hip surgeries, and new technology that connects vital signs monitors directly to patient records.
Some small yet important purchases included a nitrous oxide system for the Family Birthing Unit so that women giving birth now have another pain management option available to them.
And for a very small price tag of $91.70, the Hospital was able to purchase a storybook for the Oncology Department. For young children whose parents are undergoing chemotherapy, the story helps them understand what is happening and how to cope.
Lynda Murray, the Foundation’s Board Chair, commented “while signing the cheque, it suddenly struck me just how much donors in our community mean to our Hospital – their generosity will directly touch so many lives by helping our Hospital provide the best care.”
We truly are so fortunate to live is such a generous community. Donors help fund every piece of patient care equipment at Guelph General Hospital.
Suzanne Bone, the Foundation’s CEO, has now witnessed 26 of these annual funds transfers, but said “I still feel an overwhelming sense of appreciation each and every year”.
