Two times the impact: Community match announced for Guelph General’s new medical centre
FDC Foundation pledges up to $500,000 in matching funds as part of $1.5M commitment
The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital is thrilled to announce a community match as they near the finish line of raising $10 million in support of Guelph General’s upcoming community-based medical centre on Speedvale Avenue, expanding access to diagnostic imaging services. Donations made towards the first phase of the medical centre through the remainder of the year will be matched dollar for dollar* by FDC Foundation, a private philanthropic organization located in Mississauga. With a commitment to advancing community health, FDC Foundation’s matching initiative aims to empower community giving, doubling the impact as the Hospital continues this key development project.
“Donor support is critical to launch the new community-based medical centre, and with this generous matching gift, your gift to our seasonal fundraising efforts this year will go even further,” says Julie Byczynski, CEO of The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital. “The community has already raised 90% of the funds needed for phase one. In this home stretch, every donation will make a difference to close the gap.”
In addition to the match, FDC Foundation has provided a transformative $1 million gift to support the development and equipment of the community-based medical centre, bringing vital health services closer to home.
Currently under construction at the Conestoga College’s Guelph campus, the first phase of the community-based medical centre will focus on diagnostic imaging services to meet the growing demands of Guelph-Wellington. This includes the installation of a second MRI machine – doubling current capacity. The new MRI machine is scheduled to arrive in December 2025 and the centre opening to patients in early 2026.
“This investment from FDC Foundation will have a lasting impact on our ability to deliver care where it’s needed most,” says Mark Walton, President & CEO of Guelph General Hospital. “The new community-based medical centre will allow us to improve access and convenience for patients, while making space at the main hospital on Delhi Street for increased acute service needs.”
Planning for a future phase of the community-based medical centre is underway and is expected to include additional ambulatory services, further enhancing the hospital’s ability to deliver care in community settings.
Community members who wish to make a donation and take advantage of this limited-time match can do so online, by mail or by calling the Foundation office at (519) 837-6422. Please specify that your gift is designated to the “community-based medical centre.”
