Guelph Gryphons score big for breast cancer awareness at annual Think Pink game

Community comes together as football team and fans raise over $13,000 in support of Guelph General Hospital

Guelph, ON, October 21, 2025 / – The Guelph Gryphons Football team and fans proved that the biggest victories can happen off the field during this year’s Think Pink game, raising $13,309 for The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital. The annual game, which turns Alumni Stadium into a sea of pink, brings together players, coaches, students, alumni and the broader community to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer.

“Think Pink is bigger than the game,” said Bill Brown, CIO of the Lang Innovation Team and FOGF Membership Coordinator. “This cause is personal for many of our players, parents, and alumni. When we stand together like this, we’re not just supporting football – we’re showing up for families in our community who deserve care close to home.”

All funds raised from limited-edition pink Gryphons merchandise and in-game fundraising activities will support the construction and equipment of Guelph General Hospital’s new community-based medical centre, slated to open in early 2026 at Conestoga College’s Guelph campus. The medical centre will house diagnostic imaging services, including the addition of a second mammography unit – expanding Guelph General’s capacity and making early screening possible for more women. These funds will be matched by the generous support of FDC Foundation, doubling the impact.

“Recently, members of the Gryphon football team visited Guelph General Hospital to see behind the scenes, and meet patients and staff.  These athletes are leaders on and off the field, and it’s inspiring to see their commitment to giving back,” said Julie Byczynski, CEO of The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital. “All patient care equipment – including mammography and ultrasound units – is funded by donations, and support from the Think Pink game and initiatives will help us to expand access to care for all, including women seeking vital breast cancer screening.”
