Donor generosity brings Sara Plus lift to Guelph General Hospital, enhancing patient care

Providing high-quality care takes more than the expertise of skilled healthcare professionals; it also requires access to the latest tools and equipment. At Guelph General Hospital (GGH), all patient care equipment is funded by generous donors, with our community making a meaningful difference in helping deliver exceptional care.

Last week, this generosity was seen in action as the GGH’s 6W nursing team were presented with a new Sara Plus patient lift, made possible through an anonymous donation. This state-of-the-art mobility aid will greatly support healthcare staff in safely moving patients with mobility challenges, enhancing patient outcomes while protecting the well-being of caregivers.

“The 6W team is grateful for the generous donation of a Sara Plus lift, which will greatly enhance our ability to safely transfer and mobilize patients,” shared Kristen Edmiston, Director of Inpatient Surgery. “This donation was made in honour of Kelly Thompson, an extraordinary and highly capable Resource Nurse, who brings a wealth of experience and skill to her role. The donor also recognizes the dedication and compassionate care of the entire 6W team.”

This donation was made by an anonymous donor whose husband received exceptional care at GGH after sustaining multiple injuries in an accident. During his stay, the family was deeply moved by the compassion and dedication shown by our nursing team. The donor personally experienced this same commitment to care during a subsequent visit of her own.

The idea for the donation began with a heartfelt conversation between a family friend and one of the nurses on the floor. That exchange sparked the desire to give back in a way that would directly support both patients and staff. Today, the Sara Plus is a powerful expression of donor gratitude but also serves as a legacy of care.

We are deeply honored and extend our sincerest thanks to the donor. Their gift reflects the very spirit of transforming healthcare through giving.
