Barbara Wood Awarded King Charles III’s Coronation Medal

The Guelph-Wellington community is celebrating the well-deserved recognition of Barbara Wood, the recent recipient of the prestigious King Charles III Medal. Alongside fellow nominees Linda Hasenfratz and Jim Estill (all winners!), Barbara was recognized for her exceptional contributions to our region.

Barbara has been an inspiration for philanthropy, particularly in the realm of healthcare. Her significant donations to The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital have revolutionized medical services and infrastructure. From the expansion and modernization of healthcare facilities to the redevelopment of the Special Care Nursery and the Emergency Department, their impact is undeniable.

Barbara’s dedication extends beyond financial support. Her active involvement in organizing and leading fundraising events, such as the annual Black Tie Bingo and the Hot Foot Happening, has further improved the positive impact on our community. Her support for initiatives like the MRI & More campaign in 2007 demonstrates her commitment to addressing healthcare needs through innovative fundraising.

In 2018, The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital honored the Wood family by naming The John and Barbara Wood Main Lobby. This tribute acknowledges over 30 years of generosity and their significant contributions to the community.

Barbara’s impact on educational institutions has also been notable. Generous contributions to the University of Guelph and the University of Western Ontario have supported educational development and created new opportunities for local students, fostering academic growth and supporting the advancement of knowledge in the community.

The King Charles Medal III is a fitting recognition of Barbara’s commitment to the Guelph-Wellington community. Her dedication to healthcare, education, and the environment has shaped a brighter future for generations to come.
