This Tuesday at Guelph General Hospital a plaque commemorating a moment of pride in the GGH Family Birthing Unit was unveiled.

The plaque signifies a remarkable, life saving procedure that was performed at Guelph General in 1991. The case relates to severe shoulder dystocia, which had not been attempted in Canada until this time.

The quick thinking and heroic efforts of Dr. Namis and the FBU operating room team saved the life of a newborn and the mother by performing the Zavanelli manoeuvre.

A ribbon cutting ceremony honouring the team and giving special recognition to Dr. Nabil Namis, Dr. David Hood, Dr. Robert Linton, and RNs Eileen Plunkett and Laura Raftis was held on Tuesday in front of Dr. Namis and his family, Dr. Hood and many others in attendance.

“As we dedicate this plaque, let it stand as a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team, and as a symbol of our ongoing commitment to our mission,” said Mark Walton, CEO of Guelph General Hospital.
