Congratulations to June’s 50/50 Hospital Lottery Winner of $26,462!
Greg Meredith and Penny O’Shaughnessy were enjoying their Canada Day long weekend when Greg got a call from Foundation staff member, Montana Woolford-Browne. “He was so excited,” Montana said. “I could hear the appreciation in his voice.”
In a phone interview, Greg recalls the day, “It was Thursday, June 30th. We were at Niagara-on-the-Lake when we got the call—we were on cloud nine! It was an amazing way to start our Canada Day weekend.”
Greg and Penny have supported the 50/50 Hospital Lottery for Guelph General Hospital since the inception of the program.
When asked why they play the 50/50 lottery, Greg expressed, “We have had sterling care at Guelph General Hospital and we deeply appreciate having such a strong community hospital.”
Greg moved to Guelph in 2017. Around then, he started experiencing some acute health issues. He had to have surgery and spent two weeks at Guelph General recovering.
“It was a challenging time for us,” Greg explains. “I was new to Guelph, and Penny had not yet relocated to Guelph at the time and had to travel to come visit me.”
“Penny and I were so appreciative with the level of care, kindness and expertise of the healthcare providers that looked after me at the Hospital.”
“Plus, that wasn’t the only time we experienced great care,” Greg exclaimed. It was Christmas time in 2019 when Penny’s Dad travelled by train for a visit and essentially went from stepping off the train into the Guelph General Emergency Department. In his urgent time of need, the doctors and nurses brought him back to good health in short order.
With these lottery winnings, Greg and Penny will help out their three children, save some away and already have also generously donated to The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital!
