Paige O’Brien

Today’s #MondayMotivation inspires us to put others before ourselves.

That is what Paige O’Brien did when she opted to collect donations instead of presents in celebration of her seventh birthday.

Her motivation was to honour her cousin Kaitlin who passed away five years ago, days before her seventeenth birthday due to a rare genetic disorder that she was diagnosed with at the age of seven.

Paige collected her birthday donations and happily hand-delivered them to the Foundation office alongside her mom and little sister.

The $100 that she donated will be used to purchase a footprint that will have her cousin’s name and date of birth etched into it. It will be displayed on the Hospital’s Footprints of the Future wall that is located outside of the Rotary Club of Guelph Family Birthing Unit (FBU).

“We helped steer Paige in this direction, and she was quite happy to follow through with our idea, she didn’t miss the presents and really just wants to cherish Kaitlin’s memory” said Paige’s mom who is a nurse in Guelph General’s FBU.

We hope the fulfillment and joy that Paige feels for being able to honour her cousin and to help other’s at Guelph General through her donation will be far more lasting than that brought about by any material gift.

Community members like Paige, with a kind and generous nature, help make patient care better at Guelph General Hospital.
