See the impact of your generosity in 2025

A message from Julie Byczynski, CEO

Driven by your generosity and the collective support of the Guelph-Wellington community, this past year marked extraordinary milestones, highlighting what’s possible when people come together in support of local health care.

Most notable was the opening of Guelph General Hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging Centre at the new Speedvale Campus, with construction and equipment fully funded by donors like you. This landmark development is expanding access to compassionate care and helping meet the needs of a growing community. In its first week alone, the new centre completed 81 MRI scans, 24 ultrasounds, 37 bone mineral density tests and 5 x-ray procedures. Because of you, the Speedvale Campus will serve and support thousands of families for years to come.

Even amid economic uncertainty, community leaders, businesses and institutions continued to step up in remarkable ways. This year, an incredible milestone was reached: more than $100 million dollars has been donated since the Foundation opened in 1987. Your generosity is transforming care at Guelph General and shaping the experience of every patient who walks through its doors.

Your support is felt in both the big moments and the everyday ones. This year alone, community donations helped fund essential equipment across the hospital — from beds that improve patient comfort to operating room tools, like scopes and anaesthetic machines, ensuring the healthcare teams have what they need to provide safe, effective care. Donors like you have also fully equipped the new Speedvale Campus, bringing a second MRI machine to our community, along with additional ultrasound and x-ray machines.

Lastly, a heartfelt welcome to the more than 400 new members who joined the Giving Bridge monthly donor community this year! Many of you received a knock on your door this past fall during our door-to-door fundraising campaign, and we’re so glad you’ve chosen to support Guelph General in this meaningful and sustained way.

We invite you to read on and see the impact your generosity has made possible.

Opening new doors and expanding access to diagnostic technology

Julie Byczynski, CEO of The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital.

Thanks to donor generosity, Guelph now has its second MRI machine. Part of the brand-new community-based medical centre located at Guelph General Hospital’s Speedvale Campus, it joins two mammography units, two ultrasound machines and an x-ray machine. With diagnostic imaging previously operating at 150% capacity, this expansion significantly improves access to critical care services for patients within Guelph-Wellington.

A sincere thank you to all donors, with special recognition to The Angel Gabriel Foundation, the Barzotti family, FDC Foundation, the Hunter family, and the Kohli and Hirani families for their leading donations.

Investing in beds, investing in care

Every care journey starts with a safe and comfortable bed, and last year, Guelph General Hospital provided just that for over 14,000 patient visits. In 2025, community generosity helped upgrade 13 patient beds across the hospital. The latest smart beds reduce pressure injuries by more than 30%, adjust automatically, cool the skin to reduce infection risk and include fall-prevention alarms that alert nursing staff instantly. They also protect caregivers, with lower height settings that ease transfers and turn-assist features that allow a nurse to reposition a patient single-handedly.

Supporting staff well-being through The Koornstra Mental Health & Wellness Fund

Behind every strong patient outcome is a care team that feels supported, seen and sustained. The Koornstra Mental Health & Wellness Fund makes that possible by funding Schwartz Rounds at Guelph General Hospital— structured gatherings where healthcare professionals reflect openly on the emotional and human dimensions of the work they do. In a profession that asks so much of its people, these sessions are essential, ensuring compassion remains at the heart of every interaction, every shift and every life touched within these walls.

Black Tie Bingo 2025

Black Tie Bingo

On April 5, 2025 over 500 guests and volunteers supported the 29th annual Black Tie Bingo, presented by Co-operators and Meridian Credit Union. The gala raised $391,000 to fund beds, monitors and life-saving equipment that GGH’s frontline team relies on every day. The evening was deeply moving, with the Erb family sharing their story of loss and gratitude, reminding every guest just how profound local healthcare truly is.

Tour de Guelph

More than 850 riders, 130 volunteers, and 2,445 donors took to the streets for the 12th annual Tour de Guelph, presented by Label Design Ltd, on June 29. The ride shattered records, raising $226,500 and bringing the 12-year total to over $1.4 million. Proceeds from the event supported Guelph General Hospital’s Speedvale Campus and local charitable programs through Rotary Clubs of Guelph South and Guelph Trillium.

Riders at Tour de Guelph

Thank you to the riders, guests, sponsors, and volunteers for helping to make these signature events such a success.

Legacy donations play a crucial role in transforming healthcare at Guelph General Hospital by providing long-term financial stability that helps the hospital plan for the evolving needs of future generations. Every year, revenue from charitable bequests helps to purchase urgently needed patient care equipment. By including a future gift to The Foundation of Guelph General in their estate plans, donors become members of The Heritage Society, a special community of individuals dedicated to strengthening the future of Guelph General Hospital for generations to come.

Thanks to these visionary donors, GGH was able to purchase essential equipment to care for patients, including laboratory equipment, ultrasounds and anesthesia machines. Their generosity will continue to heal, inspire, and save lives long into the future.
