Tour de Guelph sees record turnout for 12th annual cycling event

Summary

Over $215,000 raised for Guelph General Hospital and Rotary Clubs of Guelph South and Guelph Trillium.

The 12th annual Tour de Guelph, presented by Label Design Ltd., welcomed a record-breaking 850 riders to Sunday’s cycling event. Not only did riders beat the heat, but they smashed fundraising goals. Over $215,000 has been raised to date with donations continuing through July 14th. Proceeds will support Guelph General Hospital and local charitable programs through the Rotary Clubs of Guelph South and Guelph Trillium.

“After 12 years, the Guelph community continues to bring such enthusiasm and energy to Tour de Guelph, bringing out folks of all ages and cycling abilities,” said Liz Fisk, Tour de Guelph Co-chair, Rotary Club of Guelph Trillium. “You could feel the sense of community – from riders at every mile marker to the tireless volunteers who made it a seamless event. Everyone was here with the same mission: supporting their local community and having fun while doing it.”

The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital’s share of proceeds will help bring a much-needed second MRI machine to the hospital’s new community-based medical centre, expected to open in early 2026. Earlier this year, Guelph General Hospital announced plans to open a new medical centre at the Guelph campus of Conestoga College. Fully managed and operated by Guelph General Hospital, the centre will initially offer breast imaging, ultrasound, x-ray, MRI and bone mineral density tests before expanding to additional outpatient services in the coming years.

“All patient care equipment is funded directly through donations, which enables our healthcare team to provide exemplary and equitable care close to home,” said Mark Walton, President and CEO at Guelph General Hospital. “Every rider, volunteer, sponsor, and donor helps us meet the growing needs of our diverse community.”

In addition to supporting Guelph General, a portion of the proceeds support local charitable organizations and programs through the Rotary Clubs of Guelph South and Guelph Trillium. The event’s impact will benefit many local groups aimed at youth development, family support and community building.
