Donors are Helping to Build a Bridge to a Healthier Future for Guelph-Wellington
As of March 2025, The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital is excited to share that community members have committed to an incredible $8 million in pledges and gifts towards the creation of a new medical centre that will be operated by Guelph General Hospital. This new, off-site centre will help meet the growing healthcare needs of our vibrant community, ensuring that everyone has access to high-quality care close to home while Guelph General continues to work toward the ultimate goal of a new hospital. Importantly, by moving some services from the main hospital to a clinical setting, Guelph General will free up space and capacity to help better serve our growing community.
Expanding Access to Life-Changing Services
The new centre will initially focus on a wide range of diagnostic imaging services, starting with a second MRI machine in addition to the one currently available at the main hospital site. With wait times for MRI scans currently longer than provincial targets for priority 4 (non-urgent) patients, this is welcome news for the Guelph-Wellington community.
The expansion will also include a focus on women’s health, including advanced breast imaging, ultrasound and bone mineral density testing. With breast cancer screening now available to women at age 40, expanded mammography will help reach more women than was previously possible by increasing Guelph General’s mammogram machines from one to two units. In addition, the centre will support other additional ultrasound and x-ray services that will improve the speed and overall experience for patients.

Located at the Speedvale Avenue campus of Conestoga College, this facility will not only enhance patient care but will also create valuable opportunities for the next generation of healthcare professionals, with a focus on training students and offering greater opportunities for clinical education.
A Community Effort
While the Ontario government has committed to covering the ongoing operating costs of the new MRI, the full cost of patient care equipment and construction must be funded by our generous community. In 2024, the hospital turned to The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital to raise $10 million to bring this vital project to life.
Thanks to the generous support of our community, we’ve already surpassed 80% of this fundraising target, putting us on track to complete this crucial phase of the project.
Thank You to Our Donors
We extend our deepest gratitude to the individuals, families, and businesses who have already stepped forward to support this transformative initiative. Their commitment is helping us lay the foundation for better healthcare and a stronger, healthier future for our community.
Join Us in Making a Difference
There’s still opportunity for community members to play a role in this exciting project. As we approach the installation of our community’s second MRI in December 2025, we continue to fundraise to ensure the completion of the centre. To that end, the hospital portion of the proceeds from the 2025 Tour de Guelph cycling event has been earmarked for this project. In the months ahead, we will launch a second phase of fundraising to further expand services and continue enhancing care for Guelph-Wellington.
Your support is crucial. Together, we can create a healthcare facility that will serve generations to come.
Thank you for being a part of this journey.
