A Letter From Ron and Linda
Guelph General Hospital urgently needs your support to fund essential nursing equipment. This season, will you give a gift that touches lives?
Dear Valued Supporter,
As Jimmy Stewart says, it’s a wonderful life. I really believe that. Just like in the movie, every person’s actions touch so many others. That’s certainly the case when you donate to Guelph General Hospital!
Your support meant so much to me and my husband, Ron, earlier this year. And by contributing today, you’ll fund essential nursing equipment to help so many other patients.
Our Guelph General experience began when Ron developed cellulitis in his foot. It turned out he wasn’t getting enough blood flow into his legs, so our family doctor referred us to a specialist at the Hospital.
Dr. Afagh said Ron needed surgery right away. He started with a lower-risk procedure. When that wasn’t enough, he did a second, more extensive operation that took almost eight hours.
Did I worry about losing Ron? Absolutely.
If you’ve ever had a loved one in hospital, you know how tough it can be. Altogether, Ron spent 31 days in Guelph General. And every day, I prayed for the strength and grace to get us through to tomorrow.
Fortunately, we had so many people in our corner. When I drove home each night, I knew he was being taken care of by a wonderful team — including you.
Dr. Afagh was such a capable and compassionate doctor. Even when his beeper was calling him to another surgery, he took an extra five minutes to finish explaining everything to us. After each of Ron’s procedures, he visited every day.
The nurses on the fifth and sixth floors were so personal, caring and attentive. They really kept his spirits up! The hospital volunteers went the extra mile to make our experience a little easier. And when Ron developed an infection after he was discharged, the amazing staff in the emergency department triaged him right away and looked after him until he was re-admitted.
Thanks to you, Ron’s team had the tools they needed every step of the way. Can they continue to count on you today?
Your support is crucial, because government funding doesn’t pay for patient care equipment. Instead, Guelph General depends on kind-hearted community members.
Together, you funded everything from the scalpel for Ron’s surgery to nursing equipment as essential as IV pumps, stretchers and vital signs monitors.
But you gave us much more than that. You gave Ron his quality of life back.
Now, we’re once again enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
Ron gets out for a walk every day, along with his McDonald’s coffee. We meet up regularly with friends and see our family. And, of course, Ron has to get his sport fix each night. (The Blue Jays let us down this year, so let’s hope the Buffalo Bills have got what it takes!)
Today, would you give other patients like Ron the gift of more cherished moments? Big or small, your contribution will make a real difference.
Ron and I have a good life. We had to work hard, but we were blessed with jobs and good health for so many years, not to mention our children, grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
We’re grateful for everything we’ve received, and that’s why we’ve added Guelph General to the causes we support every year.
During this season of giving, will you join us?
Linda and Ron Witt
P.S. It takes a community to support our community hospital! Every tax-deductible gift, big or small, means so much. And it’s such a good feeling to know you’re helping other people when they need it most.
